Blue zone parking spaces are there to encourage a high rate of vehicle rotation around tertiary services such as shopping centres, hospitals, schools etc. The goal here is to provide parking for the maximum number of people visiting the area. The spaces are left free for other potential users to park in.
All types of vehicles can park in these zones using the corresponding time ticket issued by the parking meter, the maximum parking time will be shown on the sign. Parking time varies between 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours.
Number of spaces
We currently have over two thousand blue spaces in service.
The operating hours of the blue zone coincide with the peak traffic times in the city. However, 9h00 to 14h00 and 16h00 to 20h00, in the centre of the city are also extended to Saturdays, in the beach area they also apply on Sundays and holidays.
IMPORTANT: Always check the information shown on the correct sign for the parking section, there may be special conditions such as regulated parking on Sundays and holidays around the beach area. You should also be aware that some streets may be signed as alternating streets in which the side of the pavement where you can park is changed periodically.
There are different tariffs for different parking zones..
Tariffs are established based on the existing demand for parking. Therefore, in Eixample and Ciutat Vella, where there is increased demand, tariff A applies, while tariff B applies in the other residents zones of Green Area. Tariffs C and D apply in areas where there is less demand for parking.
In case of air pollution episode activation, the basic component of each tariff will be increased with the amount of 2 euros/hour in all cases, except in the case of vehicles classified as Zero Emissions that, exceptionally, will be increased 0,0 euros/hour.
Likewise, the Barcelona City Council may limit the number of parking operations on days when there is a pollution episode.
