area DUM stands for Distribució Urbana de Mercaderies in Catalan, or Urban Freight Transport area. Following a European and worldwide trend, what were formerly known as loading and unloading areas will now be called área DUM.
Are you an area DUM user (loading/unloading)?
If you are a user of areas signposted as area DUM, you can now forget about the old parking disks. The disks have been replaced by an application for smartphones, and you will now have to enter your vehicle number plate and start and end your parking. You have three options:
- Use the areaDUM app, for which you must register first.
- If you don’t have an iOS or Android smartphone or if you prefer, you can send a SMS text message to activate each parking session in an area DUM, which does not require previous registration.
- Get your area DUM ticket from a parking meter.
With the areaDUM app you will have detailed records of all your operations. You can view how much time remains for parking and where the vehicle is located at all times. You will also have access to news and new features of the AREA and, if you need it, you have a technical support area that can answer your questions and help you with issues related to the App.
We also hope that this new service will let us offer more availability of spaces and, in the future, notify you about the areas in which you are most likely to find parking in specific time ranges. Thus, areaDUM users will save both time and money. And, in parallel, within the framework of SmartCities, we hope to improve our users daily experiences, as we can better adapt to real needs in sector, providing more spaces where they are needed and reducing the number of spaces in areas where they are not fully used.
At this time, the areaDUM application is available for both iOS and Android smartphones. You can download the app into your Smartphone free of charge and, after registering, create your user account.
There are two types of account
For private users with one or more vehicles in their household.
For company fleet accounts in which parking can be managed and done in AreaDUMs by a fleet of vehicles by a work team, sales technicians, etc.
